A huge explosion at Beirut’s port on Tuesday, 4 August has killed scores of people and injured thousands more. The Lebanese Red Cross deployed 375 medical personnel and 75 ambulances to the scene of the disaster to treat and comfort survivors, and rush the most badly-wounded to hospital. The blast rippled through several areas of the capital, causing significant damage in the nearby downtown area, and shattering windows kilometres away.
